Zach Stevens, a 2023 graduate of Stanhope Elmore High School, is set to bring his arm to the Plains after announcing his transfer to Auburn University.
A New Chapter for Auburn's Pitching Staff
During his three‑year stint with the South Alabama Jaguars, Stevens posted a 2.53 earned run average and struck out 47 batters in the 2026 season, numbers that helped him earn a reputation as one of the most reliable arms in the Sun Belt.
The right‑hander’s fastball consistently sits between 92 and 95 miles per hour, and he complements it with a sharp cutter, a breaking curveball and a deceptive changeup, a mix that has attracted the attention of Auburn’s pitching staff.
Before finalizing the move, Stevens met with Auburn Pitching Coach Everett Teaford and Head Coach Thompson, discussing how his skill set could fit into a rotation that already boasts a deep pedigree.
Auburn’s baseball program entered the 2026 regular season ranked fourth nationally and advanced to the Super‑Regional, where the Tigers fell to Ole Miss, but the experience has set high expectations for the coming year.
Stevens says his immediate goal is to help the Tigers return to the College World Series and, ultimately, to bring a national championship back to the university.
The addition of Stevens not only bolsters the pitching depth but also signals a broader ambition within the program to sustain its competitive edge in the SEC and beyond.
