A New Chapter in Murray's Professional Journey
Zachary Murray, the 25‑year‑old forward and son of Oilers head coach Rob Murray, has officially signed a contract that will see him spend his first full professional season with the Tulsa Oilers of the ECHL. The move comes after a promising stint that included nine games with Tulsa in the 2025‑26 campaign, during which he recorded six points.
Murray’s debut in the professional ranks was marked by a strong performance in his second pro game, a 6‑4 loss at Allen where he found the back of the net twice. That early success hinted at the offensive talent that had been evident throughout his collegiate years.
The forward spent his senior season at Amherst College, where he contributed nine points (1 goal, 8 assists) in 19 games for the Mammoths. His eight assists were tied for second among all skaters, and his point‑per‑game average ranked fourth in the league. Over his NCAA career, Murray amassed 53 points (21 goals, 32 assists) in 92 appearances, highlighted by a junior season in which he set career highs with 17 points (9 goals, 8 assists) in 25 games.
Before arriving at Amherst, Murray honed his skills in the North American Hockey League, compiling 62 points (28 goals, 34 assists) over a 105‑game career. In his final NAHL season with the Johnstown Tomahawks, he scored 19 goals in 53 games, ranking second in the league in goals‑per‑game average and tying for third in total goals among Tomahawks skaters. His consistent offensive production has made him a sought‑after prospect, culminating in his recent signing with Tulsa.
