A Future Mountaineer Announces His Commitment
Zai'Vion Meads, a defensive lineman from Louisville, Kentucky, revealed his college choice on Saturday, confirming that he will join West Virginia University’s football program as part of the class of 2027.
The announcement came via the social platform X, where Meads posted a brief statement thanking the coaches and schools that had pursued him throughout the recruiting process.
Meads, who grew up watching the Mountaineers on television, said the decision was the culmination of months of evaluation and dialogue with the university’s staff.
While he also received scholarship offers from Nebraska, Purdue and Kentucky, the Mountaineers’ blend of academic opportunity and defensive development ultimately tipped the scales.
Coaches at West Virginia expressed excitement about adding a player they view as a cornerstone for the defensive line, noting his size, athleticism and work ethic.
The commitment marks a significant recruiting win for the program, which has been rebuilding its roster after a transitional period in the Big 12.
Meads will join a recruiting class that already includes several other highly rated prospects, and his arrival is expected to bolster the team’s depth heading into the next season.
