The Hockey Hall of Fame unveiled its 2026 inductees on Tuesday, a roster that celebrates a new generation of players who have shaped the modern era of the sport.
Among those honored are Patrice Bergeron, Cindy Curley, Carey Price, Keith Tkachuk, Pekka Rinne and Brian Burke, each of whom left an indelible mark on the game.
Henrik Zetterberg, the longtime Detroit Red Wings captain, was again left off the list, extending his absence to a fifth consecutive year despite a career that includes 337 goals and 623 assists over 1,082 NHL games.
Zetterberg’s legacy extends beyond the NHL; he is a member of the Triple Gold Club, having captured the Stanley Cup, an Olympic gold medal with Sweden and a world championship title.
A fifth‑year snub
The selection process involves an 18‑member committee appointed by the board of directors, and a candidate must receive at least 75 percent of the ballots — 14 out of 18 — to earn induction.
Veteran net‑minder Chris Osgood, another stalwart of the Red Wings, also missed the cut this year, underscoring the competitive nature of the vote.
While the ceremony will celebrate the achievements of the new inductees, the repeated exclusion of Zetterberg and Osgood raises questions about the evolving criteria for Hall of Fame selection.
