A Homecoming Fueled by Community and Court
Ziaire Williams returned to his roots last week when he opened the doors of Eastside High School in Lancaster for his annual basketball clinic, inviting children aged six to eighteen to sharpen their skills, compete in tournaments and learn about nutrition.
The forward’s recent signing with the Los Angeles Lakers on a one‑year, $3 million contract has given him a platform to blend that community work with his professional ambitions, a move he described as a full‑circle moment for a kid who grew up just a short drive from the city.
Coach JJ Redick and President of Basketball Operations Rob Pelinka have praised Williams for his defensive versatility and his ability to serve as a point‑of‑attack defender, noting that his work ethic matches the Lakers’ evolving identity.
A familiar face in the locker room is Bronny James, his former high‑school teammate at Sierra Canyon, whose presence adds a layer of comfort as Williams navigates his first season with the franchise.
Earlier this summer the team traveled to Ljubljana, Slovenia, where they practiced on the court and took part in a rowing challenge on Lake Bled, an experience Williams called a highlight that strengthened their chemistry.
In his messages to the youngsters, he repeatedly urged them to ‘have fun and work hard,’ stressing that determination and integrity are the true ingredients for success.
His return to Los Angeles is more than a contractual milestone; it is a chance to fuse his love for the game with a commitment to uplift the community that shaped him.
