Top Seeds Lose at Trusler Sports Complex as Council Grove and Rock Creek Face Setbacks

In a surprising doubleheader at Emporia's Trusler Sports Complex, the top‑seeded Council Grove baseball team fell 1‑0 to Silver Lake, while the second‑seeded Rock Creek squad dropped a 7‑6 contest to Hayden. The decisive blow for Council Grove came in the second inning when Jax Ross smashed a double that brought home Kipton Kruger with the game‑winning run. Bradley Doornbos took the loss for Council Grove, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out seven, but a walk and three errors proved costly. Doornbos also contributed two of the team's three hits, yet the offense could not generate more against Silver Lake's pitching. Rock Creek's starter Wyatt Wells worked four innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on three hits and a walk, before Brock Lubbers entered in the fifth and gave up four more runs. Despite the defeats, both programs will retain most of their core talent. Council Grove will lose seniors Maxton Villalobos and Mason Wilkens but expect a strong return from the majority of its roster. Rock Creek, though missing graduated contributors such as Jesse Lies, Palmer and Peter Martinie, still has a deep pool of players set to return next season. The early exits underscore the volatility of the 3A and 4A brackets and set the stage for a competitive rebuild in the coming year.
