An 18‑year‑old from Monroe, Ohio, was arrested after police say he opened fire from an AR‑15 on Interstate 71, striking a vehicle that was traveling northbound. The suspect, Aaron Phelan, claimed he was trying to stop people he believed were attempting to steal his engine. Despite having no criminal record, he was held on a $200,000 bond. Witnesses reported seeing a shirtless man with a rifle, and one caller described Phelan pointing the gun at him when he tried to help. Phelan was found alone underneath a car. His public defender said the shooting was out of character. A grand jury is expected to review the case by August 5.
