Jets Ink Henry Thrun to One-Year Deal as They Bolster Defensive Depth
Winnipeg’s hockey management continued to reshape its blue line this offseason, announcing the signing of 24‑year‑old defenseman Henry Thrun to a one‑year, two‑way contract that carries an $850,000 salary cap hit. Thrun, a fourth‑round selection of the Anaheim Ducks in 2019, previously navigated a trade that sent Ryan Reaves to San Jose before landing with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he began to carve out a more prominent role. The 2025‑26 campaign marked a breakout for Thrun in the AHL, as he posted 23 points in 55 games with the Toronto Marlies and then helped the club capture the Calder Cup, contributing nine points over 24 playoff appearances. Having logged 123 NHL games with both the Ducks and the Maple Leafs, during which he accumulated 25 points, Thrun now looks to translate his AHL success into regular NHL minutes with the Jets next season. General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff highlighted the move as part of a broader strategy to deepen defensive depth, noting that the club also secured veteran blueliner Mario Ferraro for the upcoming year.
