Complaint Filed with FIFA
The Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) has officially lodged a complaint with FIFA regarding incidents that occurred prior to their World Cup match, describing them as "off‑field disturbances" involving Mexican supporters.
Footage obtained by local media shows a group of Mexican fans gathered outside the Ecuadorian team hotel, where they amplified the atmosphere with blaring music, fireworks and the honking of vehicle horns, creating a disruptive environment for the players.
In a statement, the FEF condemned the behavior as unsportsmanlike and urged authorities to adopt measures that would protect both the athletes and the fans attending the tournament.
Ecuador’s head coach, Sebastian Beccacece, acknowledged that the team’s travel schedule had been affected by a delayed flight, but emphasized that the squad remained focused on competing on the pitch without allowing external factors to distract them.
Neither the Mexican Football Federation nor FIFA have issued any public response to the allegations, leaving the matter unresolved as the tournament progresses.
The episode adds to a growing list of controversies surrounding fan conduct at recent international fixtures, raising questions about how governing bodies will address such disturbances in future competitions.
