Tennessee’s athletic department pulled back the curtain on a fresh batch of road uniforms, opting for a bold orange palette that will be worn across all varsity sports.
The new kit retains the familiar silhouette that fans have come to recognize, with the word ‘Tennessee’ arched above the number and ‘Volunteers’ below, while a single side stripe adds a subtle accent.
A Decade‑Long Partnership
The rollout was accompanied by a series of videos and photos shared on social media, where the Volunteers’ men’s and women’s teams showcased the orange ensembles, marking the first public appearance of the uniforms since the 10‑year agreement with Adidas took effect.
Design cues echo the program’s heritage, referencing the classic white throwback that debuted in the 2018‑19 season and the off‑white ‘Tennessee Classic’ uniform introduced in January 2023, complete with orange piping and a script ‘Vols’ across the chest.
The new road orange apparel also nods to a ‘Smokey Grey’ uniform first seen in 2017, a design that has since been retired but lives on in the program’s visual memory.
From Nike to Adidas
Tennessee’s uniform evolution took a decisive turn before the 2015‑16 season, when the school switched from Adidas to Nike as its official apparel dealer, prompting a redesign that featured a stylized Tennessee word mark across the chest and a ghosted ‘Power T’ on the back.
The subsequent years saw the introduction of alternate uniforms, including the ‘Tennessee Classic’ and the permanent adoption of the alternate look in the 2018‑19 season, before the recent shift back to Adidas set the stage for the current orange road uniform.
