AMC is set to revive the high‑octane world of stock car racing with its upcoming drama series *Thunder Road*, a multi‑generational saga that blends family drama with the roar of the track.
The series has just secured a key casting coup: Matt Barr will portray Calvin Whitlock, the eldest son of Dennis Quaid’s legendary driver Duane Whitlock, a character poised to wrestle with debt while eyeing an expansion of his racing empire.
Racing Roots Reimagined
Created by John Fusco and produced in partnership with NASCAR, *Thunder Road* promises authentic on‑track action alongside the personal struggles of the Whitlock family. The production will shoot this summer across the Southern hill country, aiming for a 2027 debut on both AMC and its streaming arm, AMC+.
Barr, no stranger to high‑stakes roles, recently appeared in *The Pirate King* and is slated for the upcoming *High Value Target*. He joins a roster of seasoned actors, including Michael Rooker, Chase Stokes, Joel Kinnaman, and a host of other talent such as John Fusco, Tim Clark, and Kevin Costner, all of whom bring depth to the series’ ensemble.
The show’s backing includes a suite of entertainment firms: Syndicate Entertainment, UTA, and Luber Roklin and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, each contributing to the project’s development and distribution. While the series will stream on AMC+, it also retains a traditional broadcast slot on the flagship AMC channel, ensuring broad reach for the NASCAR‑centric narrative.
