B.J. McLeod, the owner‑driver of Live Fast Motorsports, had built a reputation for competing in every superspeedway event from 2021 through February 2026. His streak of 30 consecutive races on those high‑banked tracks came to an abrupt end at Talladega in April 2026, when the team substituted him with youngster Daniel Dye.
Dye’s debut in the Cup Series at Talladega placed him 24th, marking the team’s best finish of the season to date. The performance offered a glimpse of potential, especially as the organization prepares for the next points‑paying event.
The upcoming Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway will see McLeod back behind the wheel of the No. 78 car, one of only two non‑chartered entries in the field. The other non‑chartered entry, the No. 66 Garage 66 Ford, will be piloted by Chad Finchum.
In addition to McLeod’s return, Katherine Legge is slated to drive the No. 78 car in two races this year as part of her Memorial Day Double attempt, adding further depth to the lineup.
The race will be aired live on TNT Sports beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET this Sunday, July 12, giving viewers a front‑row view of the action from EchoPark Speedway’s sister track.
A New Chapter for Live Fast Motorsports
Live Fast Motorsports, a chartered team from 2021 to 2023, has navigated a turbulent period that included a switch from Ford to Chevrolet and back again. The team’s recent foray into non‑chartered status has opened doors for fresh talent like Dye and Finchum, while still leveraging the experience of veterans such as Casey Mears, who has contributed to the program in limited capacities.
MBM Motorsports, another small‑scale operation, will also be present at Atlanta with its own entry, underscoring the competitive nature of the non‑chartered field.
Fans can expect a blend of experience and youthful energy as the stage is set for a race that could reshape the team’s trajectory for the remainder of the season.
