A Milk‑Based Medium
Wayne Wright, a 55‑year‑old artist from Solihull in the West Midlands, has turned a mundane grocery item into a surprising artistic medium.
Inspired by a free carton of oat milk that was approaching its expiry date, Wright began experimenting with the liquid on glass, using a dark backdrop to accentuate the subtle tones.
His subjects include high‑profile footballers such as Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Erling Haaland and Cristiano Ronaldo, each rendered in about an hour of careful brushwork.
The technique emerged almost by chance when his daughter Eliza asked him to paint a picture; the request sparked a series of experiments that led to the milk‑based portraits.
From Kitchen Experiment to Global Recognition
After posting the early works online, Wright received hundreds of messages from fans worldwide, and his pieces have since been sold to collectors and celebrities alike.
With the FIFA World Cup currently underway, Wright says he hopes England’s side can go all the way, and he is eager to celebrate the tournament’s biggest stars through his art.
He has watched every England match so far, impressed by the team’s performances, and notes that the choice of oat milk was purely accidental, a result of a free promotional offer from his local store.
Wright is surprised by how easily the milk adheres to glass and how the texture translates into detailed facial features, a discovery that has kept him exploring this unconventional medium.
