A fresh chapter for collectors
Upper Deck is bringing back its SP Hockey product line for the 2026‑27 season, marking the first major revival of the series in several years. The company announced that the new set will hit shelves on February 15, 2027, and will feature a robust 130‑card checklist that blends seasoned veterans with emerging rookies.
A centerpiece of the revival is the reintroduction of the ‘Premier Prospects’ subset, which spotlights the most highly anticipated young talent. This year’s edition expands the on‑card variety, offering multiple parallels for both veteran cards and the prospect-focused inserts, while also adding a trio of distinct autograph concepts that give collectors new ways to chase rare hits.
The set’s design includes a range of chase variants, with ten different inserts to hunt for, and a mixture of base rookies that remain unnumbered, preserving a classic feel for traditionalists. Parallel treatments will be applied across the veteran and prospect cards, creating a layered visual experience that encourages repeated pack openings.
Packaging options are also diversified: blaster boxes contain five cards per pack with eight packs per box, while premium tins offer five cards per pack but twelve packs per tin, giving collectors a choice between casual and high‑volume pursuits. The full SP Hockey checklist will be released by Upper Deck when the product becomes available, allowing enthusiasts to plan their pulls in advance.
Fans can expect to find the new product through a wide network of retailers, including major online platforms such as eBay, Amazon, Fanatics and Target, as well as specialty hobby shops. The broad distribution aims to make the set accessible to both casual buyers and dedicated collectors across the United States.
Industry observers note that the revival comes at a time when the sports‑card market is experiencing renewed interest, driven by a blend of nostalgia and the entry of younger fans. With the combination of new prospects, varied inserts and a structured release schedule, Upper Deck hopes to reinvigorate the SP Hockey brand and cement its place in the competitive trading‑card landscape.
