CONCACAF Rejects FIFA's World Cup Stake Sale Proposal
During a meeting on Thursday, the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) and its 41 member associations formally rejected a proposal put forward by FIFA to sell stakes in the World Cup.
The regional body voiced deep concerns over the lack of due process surrounding the initiative, pointing to a compressed deadline and the absence of any review or endorsement by the relevant FIFA governance structures.
In a press release, CONCACAF underscored the necessity for greater transparency and proper governance, arguing that any restructuring of the tournament’s commercial framework must be subject to rigorous oversight.
While the bloc stopped short of adopting the sweeping boycott strategy championed by UEFA, it made clear that the proposal, as presented, could not be accepted without a transparent evaluation process.
The decision was reiterated in a statement that highlighted the importance of preserving the integrity of the World Cup’s organization and ensuring that all stakeholders have a meaningful role in major decisions.
