A Star‑Studded Future for Legacy Motor Club
Jimmie Johnson, the seven‑time NASCAR Cup Series champion, announced his retirement after a record‑setting 703rd start at the Daytona 500 in February 2025. The milestone marked the end of a 27‑year driving career that included 83 victories and five consecutive titles, cementing his status as one of the sport’s most dominant figures.
Now shifting his focus to ownership, Johnson has taken a controlling stake in Legacy Motor Club, the team he inherited from car owner Rick Hendrick. He has assembled a high‑profile investor consortium that includes tennis star Bryce Harper, Formula One veteran Scott Dixon, IndyCar legend Dario Franchitti, and former IndyCar champion Tony Kanaan, among others.
The new ownership group also counts baseball’s Andy Roddick, country music star Darius Rucker, restaurateur Guy Fieri and former MLB player Chase Utley among its partners. Their collective aim is to transform Legacy into a consistently competitive organization, with plans to field a third full‑time entry for the 2027 season featuring drivers such as Erik Jones, John Hunter Nemechek and Riley Herbst.
Johnson is also chasing a Hollywood Walk of Fame star, having been selected for the honor in 2025. He plans to unveil the plaque during the Daytona 500 week, linking his racing legacy with entertainment culture.
Beyond the track, the former driver remains active in broadcasting and endorsement deals, while continuing to explore opportunities that blend motorsport with broader entertainment platforms.
