The University of Missouri has made public the employment agreements for its men’s basketball coaching staff for the upcoming 2026‑27 season, outlining a mix of fresh faces and retained personnel.
Four new assistants — Jimmie Foster and Tavaras Hardy — are slated to earn a base salary of $250,000 each, while veteran additions Jason Crowe Sr. and Zach Reynolds bring higher financial commitments, with Crowe Sr. set to receive $500,000 annually, $200,000 of which is designated for apparel, media and promotional duties.
The agreements also contain a termination clause that obligates the university to honor the remaining compensation of Crowe and Reynolds should either party end the contract before April 30, 2028.
Among the returning assistants, Kyle Smithpeters will see his salary dip to $250,000 from $300,000 a year earlier, Matt Cline’s pay will fall to $100,000 after a reduction from $190,000, and Ryan Sharbaugh, now promoted to associate head coach, will earn $200,000, down from $250,000 previously.
Tim Fuller, who serves as general manager as well as assistant coach, will maintain a $250,000 salary for the season, reflecting his dual responsibilities.
Head coach Dennis Gates, in his fourth year of a six‑year deal, is slated to command a $4.3 million salary next season, underscoring the long‑term investment the university has placed in his leadership.
Financial Implications and Program Direction
The disclosed figures illustrate a strategic shift toward balancing experienced hires with cost‑effective renewals, while also highlighting the university’s willingness to reward performance‑linked compensation. Partnerships with external entities such as McDonald’s are expected to enhance promotional reach and generate additional revenue streams that support the program’s growth.
