Alex Bowman, a veteran of the NASCAR Cup Series, has confirmed that the 2027 season will mark his final year competing at the highest level of stock car racing.
Chasing New Frontiers
Rather than stepping away from the track, Bowman is steering his career toward disciplines that promise more freedom and raw driving thrills. He has already begun testing a heavily modified C6 Corvette that produces close to 1,000 horsepower, a machine built for competitive drifting.
The car, part of a personal collection of high‑performance vehicles, will serve as the foundation for a series of ProAm events slated for 2028, where Bowman hopes to start small and scale up his involvement.
From Owner to Competitor
Beyond his own driving ambitions, Bowman has assembled a midget racing program under the banner of Alex Bowman Racing. The team, which prepares for the famed Chili Bowl event in Tulsa, Oklahoma, shares the garage with established NASCAR names such as Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell.
Bowman’s involvement in midget racing stretches back more than a decade, during which he has chased the Golden Driller trophy while simultaneously climbing the Cup Series standings. As of the latest points update, he sits 29th with two races remaining in the 2027 schedule.
The upcoming season will also conclude a decade‑long partnership with Hendrick Motorsports, a collaboration that yielded eight victories and countless memorable moments. Bowman reflected on the partnership as a chapter that has run its natural course.
Looking ahead, the driver says his retirement vision centers on family, personal interests, and the simple pleasure of driving without the weight of championship expectations.
