A local product abroad
D.C. United announced on Thursday that forward Jacob Murrell has completed a permanent transfer to Falkirk Football Club of the Scottish Premiership, ending a three‑year chapter in the nation’s capital.
Murrell arrived in Washington as the seventh overall selection in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft, a local prospect who quickly earned a three‑year contract through 2026 with an option for an additional season.
During his time with the club he logged 65 appearances, contributing four goals and five assists, highlighted by his first MLS goal and a striking bicycle‑kick strike against the Chicago Fire in March 2025.
The 2025 season saw him net two goals and add an assist in 24 league outings, while also featuring off the bench in a comeback victory over Orlando City SC that earned an assist.
Beyond MLS, Murrell’s early career included a memorable debut on April 27, 2024, when he played 75 minutes and followed up a week later with his maiden professional goal.
The move reflects a broader trend of MLS talent seeking new challenges abroad, and Falkirk’s sporting director welcomed the arrival of a player described by club officials as “a dynamic forward with proven creativity.”
