Roku Extends Free NWSL Streaming Deal Through 2027
Roku and the National Women’s Soccer League have expanded their existing agreement, guaranteeing that eight Sunday Night matches in 2026 and a full slate of 25 Sunday Night games in 2027 will stream without charge on Roku’s Sports Channel. The arrangement places NWSL content on the free tier of Roku’s platform, giving fans access through the Roku device, TheRokuChannel.com, mobile apps and a wide range of connected TVs.
The first broadcast will feature Seattle Reign FC versus Houston Dash on August 30, 2026, and the schedule will run through October 25, culminating in a showdown between San Diego Wave FC and Boston Legacy FC. In 2027, Roku will air a Sunday Night match each week, though the exact dates have not yet been disclosed.
A New Access Point for Fans
By offering the matches for free on Roku’s extensive hardware ecosystem, the league hopes to reach more than half of U.S. streaming households. The partnership builds on Roku’s recent success streaming the FIFA World Cup and its Sports Zones, which saw a 122% increase in streaming hours and an 80% rise in unique visitors during the second quarter of 2026.
Joe Franzetta, Head of Sports at Roku, called the deal a “watershed year for women’s soccer,” while Rachel Epstein, NWSL Chief Marketing Officer, highlighted the importance of making games easily accessible to fans who want to follow the sport without subscription barriers.
The collaboration also dovetails with Roku’s broader investment in women’s sports storytelling, including the ‘Gamechangers’ documentary series, and reflects a growing industry focus on elevating female athletes across media platforms.
