The 2026 Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway delivered a stunning conclusion to a season-long drought for Christopher Bell, who captured his first victory in 33 races by passing Kyle Larson with just 18 laps remaining.
Dramatic Finish at Darlington
Bell’s triumph came after a September win at Bristol, ending a winless streak that had stretched since that event, and showcased the resurgence of his Joe Gibbs Racing team alongside a dominant performance from the Chase contenders.
Ty Gibbs finished second and Tyler Reddick third, completing a podium sweep, while nine of the top ten positions were filled by drivers from the Chase, with Ryan Blaney securing fourth place.
The race was marked by strategic gambles, including Larson’s decision to stay out during the final caution, and notable setbacks such as Denny Hamlin’s lap‑down after a collision with Michael McDowell, William Byron’s flat‑tire spin for Hendrick Motorsports, and the struggles of Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing’s Chris Buescher and Ryan Preece, who finished tenth.
Chase Briscoe, who had been eyeing a three‑peat win, fell to 20th after a fuel‑related penalty, and the victory propelled Bell into the lead of the Chase standings ahead of the upcoming World Wide Technology Raceway event in St. Louis.
