Sallie Jane’s Shuts Doors After Three Years, Citing Family Health

DJ Warren Edwards reflects on the bar’s tribute to his grandmother and his plans to keep spinning records

A Lexington Icon Bids Farewell

Sallie Jane’s, the Lexington bar and restaurant that had become a gathering spot for University of Kentucky fans and locals alike, announced its closure after three years of operation. The decision was driven by the health of co‑owner Nancy Ayers Edwards, not by dwindling community support.

The venue was owned by Warren Edwards, who is widely known as DJ Warren Peace at UK games. He ran the bar together with his mother, Nancy, and together they built a space that honored his grandmother, Sallie Jane Walker, by featuring specialty cocktails such as Mamma’s Punch and Peace & Love, as well as a menu of chicken wings and sandwiches prepared in‑house.

Looking Ahead

Although the bar will not reopen in the same capacity, Edwards plans to continue DJing locally, including at University of Kentucky events, and sees the closure as an opportunity to carry forward the spirit of the place through his music. He also highlighted the partnership with JD’s Kitchen and Catering, which remains a valued collaboration for future projects.
