Major League Soccer will not resume competition until July 16, 2026, leaving a narrow window for Sporting Kansas City to focus on a different kind of soccer calendar. The club is simultaneously gearing up for the FIFA World Cup, which runs from June 11 to July 19, 2026, and will feature six matches at the local Kansas City Stadium.
Four national teams have chosen the Kansas City area as their base camps, and Sporting Kansas City has been woven into the tournament’s infrastructure. Co‑chairman Cliff Illig sits on the KC2026 Board of Directors, while President and CEO Jake Reid serves as Vice President of the organizing committee. The club was announced as an official Host City Supporter and will activate at the FIFA Fan Festival at the National WWI Museum and Memorial.
A packed week of community and competition
Youth soccer will dominate the coming days, with a four‑day camp kicking off on Tuesday and new sessions of Sporting Stripes and Sporting Stars beginning Saturday. Two of the club’s developmental sides will contest the Academy bracket of the 2026 MLS NEXT Cup, and ID Sessions and Pre‑Tryout Camps will run throughout the week. On Friday, Sporting Kansas City II faces the Real Monarchs, adding a competitive fixture to the schedule.
Beyond the pitch, the club is partnering with Price Chopper for a “Kickoff to the Cup” launch on Saturday, while local pubs such as No Other Pub will host Soccer in the City watch parties. These activities underscore the club’s dual role as a tournament host and a community hub as the region prepares to welcome the world.
