A Day of Purpose for Football
World Football Giving Day was announced by Common Goal in the lead‑up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, positioning the event as a global rallying point for philanthropy within the sport.
The initiative calls on fans, professional players, clubs, brands, media outlets and grassroots organisations to set aside a single day for donations, community events and social campaigns that address local needs and foster inclusion.
At the heart of the campaign is a simple gesture – a symbolic ‘heart’ that represents football’s capacity to bring people together across cultures, languages and borders.
Prominent figures such as Juan Mata, Jürgen Klopp, Naomi Girma, Vivianne Miedema, Serge Gnabry, Dani Olmo, Irene Paredes and Elvira González‑Vallés have publicly endorsed the movement, highlighting how the sport’s reach can amplify social impact.
More than 200 community organisations operating in over 100 countries are already mobilising resources, using football as a vehicle for refugee integration, girls’ empowerment and youth development, while Common Goal reports that its network has directed over $160 million of direct funding since 2002.
The effort is bolstered by lead partners adidas and Right to Dream, who aim to transform the day into an annual fixture on the football calendar, reinforcing the sport’s role as a powerful platform for collective good beyond the pitch.
