A New Youth Soccer Initiative Takes Off
The Kansas City Current, in partnership with U.S. Soccer, Kansas City Parks & Recreation and the Kansas State Youth Soccer Association, has unveiled a free youth soccer league that will begin on July 11 at the 9th & Van Brunt Athletic Fields in Kansas City, Missouri.
The league is open to children aged eight to ten, with plans to welcome roughly 120 participants in its inaugural season. Each youngster will receive a Nike jersey, new cleats, shin guards, a KC Current soccer ball and an additional ball from Franklin Sports.
Raven Jemison, president of the Current, expressed gratitude to the partners and staff who brought the project to life, while Mayor Quinton Lucas highlighted the city’s investment in people, dreams and the future of Kansas City.
Spread over eight weeks, the schedule features Saturday matches that give families a consistent rhythm of play. Organizers say the initiative is designed to create a generational impact that ripples through the community.
CVS Health serves as the presenting sponsor, reinforcing its commitment to community health and youth development. The collaboration also showcases the role of local brands such as Nike and Franklin Sports in equipping the next generation of players.
