A Stamp That Captures the Spirit of the Game
The United States Postal Service has added a new chapter to its philatelic portfolio with the release of a North American Soccer forever stamp, a vibrant tribute that blends sport and art.
Designed by Antonio Alcalá, the stamp’s central image freezes a player mid‑kick, the ball suspended in a blur that suggests motion and anticipation.
From Latin America to the World
Alcalá said his concept drew on the visual language of soccer stamps from around the world and on the kinetic energy of stock photography, aiming to convey the universal excitement of a goal.
The design deliberately echoes the elongated “goooooooal” chant that has resonated from Latin American stadiums to global broadcasts, a vocal exclamation that has become synonymous with scoring moments.
That chant, popularized by the legendary broadcaster Andrés Cantor during the 1990 World Cup, stretches the word across seconds, turning a simple goal into a musical climax.
The stamp was officially unveiled at the 2026 Boston World Exposition, where collectors and fans gathered to see the first prints. It will be issued in panes of twenty and sold through the Postal Service’s online portal, phone line 844‑737‑7826, mail order via USA Philatelic, and at post offices nationwide.
As a forever stamp, its value will always match the current first‑class mail rate for a one‑ounce letter, ensuring that the tribute remains affordable for both collectors and everyday mailers.
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the stamp serves as a cultural bridge, celebrating a sport that unites millions across continents while honoring a piece of broadcasting history that still echoes in stadiums today.
