Roku Unveils Soccer Zone Ahead of the 2026 World Cup
The streaming platform Roku has introduced a dedicated Soccer Zone that aggregates every live World Cup match, real‑time scores and reminder alerts into a single destination. The hub launches just as the tournament’s schedule is set to begin on June 11, positioning the company at the center of the global soccer frenzy.
Developed in partnership with Fox One, the official English‑language broadcaster of the competition, the Soccer Zone pulls content from services that viewers already subscribe to, including Fox One and Peacock. In addition to live streams, the experience offers a stats tracker, live scoreboards and the ability to mark favorite teams for push notifications, aiming to keep fans engaged without switching apps.
The feature will be accessible in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina and the United Kingdom, covering the primary markets where the World Cup broadcast rights are held. Roku says the hub will surface every live match available across its partner apps, ensuring that audiences can follow the tournament from any device.
Beyond the World Cup, the Soccer Zone is part of a broader rollout of content‑focused hubs on Roku, following the earlier launch of a Creators hub and event‑specific zones such as NCAA March Madness and WNBA Zone. The company also recently refreshed its CTV home screen with Quick Access shortcuts, personalized recommendations and an expanded search function, reflecting a push to make the platform a one‑stop entertainment gateway.
A strategic move in a crowded streaming landscape
Industry analysts view the Soccer Zone as a strategic attempt by Roku to differentiate its ad‑supported model amid growing competition from dedicated sports streaming services. By consolidating coverage and adding interactive tools, Roku hopes to increase viewer retention and attract advertisers looking to reach soccer‑enthusiast demographics during the sport’s most watched tournament.
Founder and CEO Anthony Wood highlighted the initiative as a natural extension of Roku’s mission to simplify content discovery. “We want fans to find the games they love with a single click, and to stay connected through timely updates and personalized experiences,” Wood said in a statement.
As the 2026 World Cup approaches, the Soccer Zone positions Roku as a key player in the live‑sports ecosystem, blending traditional broadcasting partnerships with its own technology to deliver a seamless viewing experience for millions of fans worldwide.
