Trackhouse Racing is bringing back its PROJECT91 program for the 2026 NASCAR season, setting the stage for a historic debut at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego on June 21.
The spotlight will fall on former Formula 1 driver Kevin Magnussen, who will climb into the No. 91 Chevrolet for his first NASCAR Cup Series start. The British‑born racer brings a résumé that includes 185 Grand Prix starts, a podium on his F1 debut at the 2014 Australian Grand Prix, and a pole position at the 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix.
A Strategic Partnership with Qualcomm
Magnussen’s partnership with Qualcomm will see the tech giant’s AI‑driven Dragonwing platform handling real‑time race data and radio communications, adding a modern edge to the entry.
Guiding the newcomer will be veteran crew chief Phil Surgen, a six‑time Cup Series winner and 2022 championship runner‑up, who has been working closely with the Trackhouse crew on seat fittings, pit‑stop drills and the nuances of a NASCAR weekend.
He will not be alone on the grid; the lineup also features full‑time Trackhouse drivers Shane van Gisbergen, Ross Chastain and Connor Zilisch, promising a competitive blend of road‑course specialists and oval veterans.
The PROJECT91 concept was launched by team owner Justin Marks to give internationally recognized racing stars a chance to compete in NASCAR’s premier series, a vision that has already yielded a victory for Shane van Gisbergen in the 2023 Chicago Street Race.
Coverage of the San Diego event will begin at 1 p.m. ET on Amazon Prime, giving viewers a front‑row view of what promises to be a landmark moment for both the series and the drivers involved.
