Hofstra University announced this week that Shane Doyle will step into the role of assistant men’s basketball coach, joining the staff of veteran head coach Speedy Claxton. The appointment underscores the program’s confidence in Doyle’s analytical acumen and player development expertise.
Doyle’s rise follows a standout season at Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut, where his contributions helped the Eagles post a 21‑win record and earn a berth in the NCAA Division II tournament. That experience highlighted his ability to translate strategic insights into on‑court success.
Before his tenure at Post, Doyle spent two years as an assistant coach at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa. There, he designed individualized skill development plans and produced opponent scouting reports that sharpened the team’s competitive edge.
From 2018 through 2021 he served as director of men’s basketball operations at Wagner College, overseeing travel logistics, video coordination and day‑to‑day program administration for the Seahawks. The role honed his organizational skills and deepened his understanding of program management.
Earlier in his career Doyle worked as an assistant at Putnam Science Academy and Bridgewater State University, where he refined his recruiting techniques and continued to build a reputation as a diligent analyst of game footage.
Doyle earned his bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Quinnipiac University in 2014, a foundation that informs his clear communication style and ability to convey complex strategies to players and staff.
Future Outlook
The addition of Doyle is expected to deepen Hofstra’s analytical capabilities and strengthen player development as the program aims to contend for conference honors in the upcoming season. His blend of operational experience and strategic insight positions the team for sustained growth under Claxton’s leadership.
