Kevin Magnussen, a veteran of more than a decade in Formula One, is set to make his NASCAR debut at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego, California.
A New Chapter for Magnussen
The event marks the first time NASCAR will compete on this particular road‑course layout, adding a new chapter to the series’ expanding calendar of street and road‑course races.
Trackhouse Racing, the team behind the initiative, created Project 91 to give elite international drivers a chance to test themselves in NASCAR’s premier series.
Project 91’s Growing Legacy
Since its inception, the program has attracted names such as Kimi Räikkönen, Shane van Gisbergen and Helio Castroneves, each leaving a distinct mark on the competition.
Räikkönen’s solitary entry in 2022 ended 37th at Watkins Glen, while van Gisbergen claimed victory in the inaugural Chicago street race and followed with a tenth‑place finish at the Indianapolis Road Course.
Castroneves, a four‑time Indianapolis 500 winner, attempted the 2025 Daytona 500 but finished 39th, illustrating both the promise and the challenge of the program.
Magnussen brings a résumé that includes 185 Formula One starts, a podium with McLaren in 2014, and stints at Renault and HAAS before the 2024 season concluded with his replacement by Oliver Bearman.
Now focused on revitalising his racing career, the Danish driver will climb into the No. 91 entry for Trackhouse Racing, hoping to translate his Formula One experience into a strong NASCAR performance on the San Diego road course.
