A weekend of revelry
The Tartan Army, Scotland’s passionate soccer supporters, turned Boston into a sea of blue and white after a 1‑0 win over Haiti, flooding the city’s pubs with song and cheers.
What began as a typical weekend of revelry quickly escalated into a drinking marathon, with fans consuming beer at a rate four times higher than the city’s usual four‑day holiday pattern, leaving taps running dry across several establishments.
At the Sam Adams Boston Taproom, the sudden shortage forced staff to call for an emergency delivery, while Hennessy’s Bar reported a tripling of St. Patrick’s Day‑style sales that left shelves empty by Sunday night; even Federal Wine & Spirits in the Financial District ran out of Budweiser and Corona, and a refrigerator door there gave way under the constant opening and closing.
The excitement is set to continue, as Scotland’s next opponent, Morocco, is scheduled to meet the Tartan Army at Boston Stadium in Foxborough on Friday evening, a match that has local venues already preparing for another wave of demand.
Noelle Somers, a longtime follower of the team’s overseas tours, was among the crowd that kept the celebrations rolling well into the night.
