Jimmie Johnson Joins TNT Sports as Studio Analyst for In‑Season Challenge

The former NASCAR champion will appear at three races while Marty Smith takes on expanded hosting duties.

TNT Sports has revealed that seven‑time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson will serve as a studio analyst for three races during the network’s second annual In‑Season Challenge, marking a notable addition to its racing coverage.

The assignments are set for Sonoma Raceway on June 28, North Wilkesboro Speedway on July 19 and Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 26, giving Johnson a chance to bring his championship pedigree to each venue.

Johnson is no stranger to motorsports broadcasting; he previously contributed analysis to NBC’s Indy 500 coverage in both 2021 and 2024, earning praise for his concise breakdowns and insider perspective.

A New Hosting Lineup

Marty Smith will anchor the pre‑ and post‑race segments, joining a roster that includes Dale Earnhardt Jr., Steve Letarte and Jamie McMurray, a move the network says will bring fans closer to the action.

On pit road, Shannon Spake will work alongside veteran voices Marty Snider and Danielle Trotta, while Jeff Burton steps in as a studio analyst for the events where Johnson is not present.

Dylan “Mamba” Smith returns as a Bleacher Report Racing correspondent, and Adam Alexander will join Earnhardt, Letarte and himself in the commentary booth for all five races.

The network highlighted that viewership for the In‑Season Challenge climbed 52 percent by the time it reached Indianapolis, underscoring the growing appetite for expanded studio programming.

Looking Ahead

With a blend of veteran talent and fresh faces, TNT Sports aims to expand its studio show and deepen fan interaction, positioning the In‑Season Challenge as a cornerstone of its motorsport coverage.
