A Strategic Addition for the Longhorns
Texas basketball has secured a commitment from Lithuanian guard Mantas Laurencikas, a 19‑year‑old who will join the Longhorns for the 2026‑27 season. The move comes after a standout year in the French Betclic Elite, where he helped AS Monaco Basket compete at the top level.
Laurencikas brings a blend of experience and versatility, having represented Lithuania in multiple FIBA tournaments over the past four summers. In the 2025‑26 campaign he posted averages of 13.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists, numbers that have attracted attention from several programs.
His arrival marks the latest step in a sweeping roster transformation orchestrated by head coach Sean Miller. The transfer class, now ranked No. 2 in 247Sports’ composite ratings, includes guards such as Mikey Lewis, Elyjah Freeman, Amari Evans, David Punch and Isaiah Johnson, pushing the scholarship count to 13.
Roster Dynamics and Coaching Vision
The new roster also features freshmen Austin Goosby, Bo Ogden and Joe Sterling, while Ogden, son of Texas general manager Chris Ogden, recently earned Central Texas boys player of the year honors. Laurencikas will also reunite with fellow Lithuanian Matas Vokietaitis, a post player already on the roster.
Coach Miller envisions a guard‑heavy lineup that can stretch defenses and create spacing for the team’s interior game. With the recent House vs. NCAA settlement allowing all scholarship players to receive full aid, Texas now fields a deep bench of 13 scholarship athletes, each eligible for a scholarship.
The coaching staff believes Laurencikas’s playmaking ability and familiarity with international competition will complement the existing guard corps, offering a bridge between the program’s recent successes and its future ambitions.
