Benton Parks and Recreation is calling on community members to step onto the diamond as volunteers for its Miracle League baseball program, a free initiative designed for children and adults with physical or mental disabilities.
Two Ways to Play
The program offers two distinct formats. On Monday evenings, a buddy league pairs volunteers directly with players, providing assistance and encouragement throughout each game. Tuesday nights feature an independent league for participants who are more self‑sufficient, allowing them to compete with minimal support.
Both leagues are held on the same well‑maintained field, creating a vibrant schedule that draws families and friends to the ballpark on consecutive nights. The atmosphere is deliberately relaxed, with music playing, nearby basketball crowds cheering, and plenty of opportunities for parents to capture photos before and after each game.
Community Support and Sponsorship
Summerwood Sports sponsors the entire program, covering all costs so that participation remains completely free for families. Local softball teams, cheer squads and other community groups frequently attend games to add to the festive vibe, cheering on players and helping to create a supportive environment.
Volunteers are asked to bring energy, patience and a focus on the players' needs. Organizers emphasize that the role is not about technical instruction but about fostering confidence, inclusion and enjoyment for each participant.
A Regional Outreach
Participants travel from across the region, including Maumelle, Little Rock and Hot Springs, to join the league. This geographic spread reflects the program's growing reputation as a cornerstone of inclusive recreation in central Arkansas.
