The University of Alabama at Huntsville (UAH) Chargers are set to kick off their 2026‑27 women’s basketball campaign with an exhibition matchup against the University of Alabama on October 15th, inside the historic Boutwell Auditorium in downtown Birmingham.
Under the guidance of head coach Allen Sharpe, the team has emerged as one of the most formidable programs in Division II, having posted a 32‑6 record last season and a 57‑13 mark over the past two years.
A New Era Under Coach Sharpe
The game forms part of the Ballin in Boutwell showcase, a multi‑day event that will feature contests from eight universities across the men’s and women’s brackets, highlighting the growing appetite for college basketball in the region.
Ballin in Boutwell, which runs from October 13‑15, is sponsored by Nike and Hibbett, bringing professional‑grade production values to a venue that hadn’t hosted a major basketball event in nearly half a century.
Coach Sharpe’s squad made school history last year by reaching the Division II Final Four for the first time, a milestone that has raised expectations and added a new layer of excitement for the upcoming season.
A victory over Alabama would not only provide a psychological boost but also cement UAH’s status as a rising power in the division as they look to translate preseason promise into regular‑season success.
