Chase Stokes, best known for his role as John B. Routledge in Netflix's hit series Outer Banks, has been cast opposite Dennis Quaid in AMC's upcoming drama series Thunder Road. The show, which is scheduled to launch in 2027, marks a significant collaboration between the network and the world of professional racing.
Thunder Road will chronicle the multi‑generational saga of the fictional Whitlock family, whose roots run deep in stock car racing. The series is being developed in partnership with NASCAR, making it the first long‑form drama to receive the organization's endorsement.
A Racing Legacy Meets Modern Storytelling
Dennis Quaid will portray Duane Whitlock, a legendary figure known in the racing world as The Wrecking Ball. Stokes will take on the role of Ronnie Whitlock, a former professional driver who now serves on his cousin's pit crew, adding a personal, family‑driven layer to the narrative.
The casting news arrives just as Outer Banks prepares to air its fifth and final season on August 20. In that series, Stokes leads a group of teenagers on a high‑stakes treasure‑hunting adventure, a storyline that has helped the show become one of the most‑watched premieres of the year, with 3.2 billion minutes streamed during its third season.
Beyond the series, Stokes has recently appeared in the military thriller Valiant One and the young‑adult romance Marked Men. He is also set to make his directorial debut with I Told the Sunset About You, a contemporary Bonnie and Clyde‑style romantic thriller.
Thunder Road is being produced by Entertainment 360 and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, with additional support from UTA and other industry partners. The collaboration with NASCAR not only brings authenticity to the racing world but also signals a new direction for scripted programming centered on American motorsports.
