Concacaf Celebrates Women Leaders in Global Football Initiative

Ten delegates from the Confederation showcase progress toward gender equity during a landmark program in Mexico City

A Milestone in Women’s Football Leadership

Concacaf recently highlighted a cohort of ten representatives who took part in the Future Leaders in Football program hosted by the German Football Association in Mexico City. The initiative ran concurrently with the preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and was designed to accelerate gender equity within the sport.

Participants engaged in a series of leadership workshops, hands‑on sport‑for‑development projects and dialogues about the structural obstacles that women often encounter in football administration and playing pathways. The conversations were framed by insights from senior figures across the confederation and international governing bodies.

Voices Shaping the Dialogue

Concacaf’s General Secretary, Philippe Moggio, underscored the importance of nurturing female talent at every level of the game, stating that a more representative leadership pool strengthens the overall fabric of football. Alongside him, Concacaf’s Chief Commercial Officer Heidi Pellerano and FIFA’s Chief Football Officer Jill Ellis contributed perspectives on scaling impact and fostering sustainable change.

The program also featured contributions from a diverse set of emerging leaders, including Bonnie Ruan of the Anguillan Football Association and Rudselyne de Kort from the Aruba Football Association. Their participation illustrated the breadth of talent emerging from the Caribbean, Central American and wider regional networks.

Since its inception in 2021, the Future Leaders in Football series has welcomed over one hundred women from around the globe, with the seventh edition placing a particular emphasis on the Concacaf region. The cohort’s experiences reflect a growing momentum toward equitable representation and a re‑imagining of leadership pathways in the sport.
