Arturo Monroy, a former high school and college baseball standout, now serves as a coach for a local high school team while volunteering with the Cubs Nike RBI program.
The Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities initiative, sponsored by Nike, offers free baseball and softball opportunities to youth across Chicago’s 77 neighborhoods, emphasizing life‑skill development and safe play environments.
A milestone tournament
For the third consecutive year, the program will compete in the McHenry County Youth Sports Association’s International Championships, an event that gathers teams from the United States as well as participants from Japan, Canada and Brazil.
Cubs RBI provides summer and fall leagues for players aged 14 to 18, holds tryouts each July, and partners with Cubs Charities and local organizations to deliver tutoring, workshops and college‑preparation resources.
Beyond the field, the program teaches championship effort — being competitive, consistent and coachable — while offering mentorship from caring adults, preparing athletes for both collegiate and professional pathways.
