Edmond Mayor Teams with FIFA to Distribute Soccer Balls to Local Schools
Edmond Mayor Mark A. Nash is set to distribute soccer balls to elementary schools and the YMCA this August as part of a FIFA‑backed outreach program designed to promote youth fitness and community engagement.
The balls were initially handed to mayors at the United States Conference of Mayors Winter Meeting, where FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized the importance of recreation and physical education for children.
Nash said the initiative is meant to pull children away from electronic devices, foster teamwork and spark a lasting interest in sport, while also strengthening neighborhood ties.
City officials hope the effort will not only improve physical health but also create a ripple effect of community involvement, with plans to expand the program in the coming years.
