Five-Star Cornerback Hayden Stepp Weighs Elite Visits as Alabama Leads the Pack

Recruitment race intensifies with official trips to Alabama, Georgia, Oregon and California on the horizon

Hayden Stepp, a five-star cornerback who tops the 2027 recruiting class at No. 28 nationally, has become the centerpiece of a fierce battle among college football’s powerhouse programs.

Hailing from Las Vegas, Nevada, Stepp stars at Bishop Gorman High School, where over three varsity seasons he amassed 58 tackles, 12 pass breakups, a fumble recovery and an interception returned for a touchdown. His performances earned him a spot on MaxPreps’ 2025 Junior All-America team and a slot in the 2026 Under Armour All-America Game as well as the Polynesian Bowl.

The Race for a Top Cornerback

Alabama has emerged as the early favorite in Stepp’s recruitment. The Crimson Tide have hosted the prospect on multiple campus tours, and the coaching staff has cultivated a comfort level that many analysts view as a decisive edge.

Georgia, the SEC rival, remains the closest challenger. The Bulldogs are set to host Stepp for an official visit on June 19, a move that could tip the scales if the visit delivers the expected impact.

Oregon, the lone Big Ten program in the mix, will also bring the recruit to campus this summer, while California, coached by former Oregon defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi, has slated an official visit for June 15. The Golden Bears have already secured two four-star defensive backs, including No. 30 cornerback Duvay Williams, adding depth to their pursuit.

Andrew Ivins, a 247Sports director of scouting, describes Stepp as a “jumbo corner” who disrupts passing windows at all three levels with his length. His physical brand of play has drawn praise from coaches and peers alike.

The recruitment narrative extends beyond the field, with Stepp’s participation in high-profile all-star games underscoring his national stature. As the summer progresses, each official visit will shape the final decision of a player who could reshape secondary defenses across the country.
