Georgia Bulldogs Slip to Fifth in Valuation Ranking as SEC Revenues Surge

A $30 million boost cannot offset the shift in conference payouts and emerging sponsorship deals.

The Athletic’s latest valuation of college football programs places the University of Georgia at fifth, estimating its brand at $1.95 billion. The Bulldogs have seen their worth climb by roughly $30 million, yet they remain behind Texas, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Michigan in the overall ranking.

Analysts attribute the slip to the expiration of revenue streams generated by the 2021 and 2022 national championships. While the program’s financial outlook is improving, the shift reflects a broader realignment of earnings across the SEC.

Financial Outlook and Future Prospects

Georgia’s athletic department recently approved a fiscal 2027 budget of $239.1 million, marking an 8.2 percent increase over the prior cycle. The budget includes an anticipated $54.5 million from SEC and NCAA distributions for the 2026 fiscal year, part of a record $1.03 billion payout the conference will share among its 16 members.

New revenue channels are emerging. The school expects to generate significant income from sponsorship agreements, concert events and donor contributions, while also capitalizing on a $56 million expansion of its football complex slated for completion in July 2027. Recent additions, such as Delta’s branding on the Sanford Stadium field, illustrate the growing commercial appetite.

Athletic director Josh Brooks has indicated that further sponsorship deals are on the horizon, though they will be pursued at a measured pace. The Bulldogs’ sports‑marketing arm, a joint venture between Learfield and JMI Sports, will manage these partnerships, a relationship that has attracted interest after TPG’s recent $1.8‑2 billion acquisition of Learfield.

Media coverage of conference media days has positioned Georgia as the preseason favorite to win the SEC, earning 88 championship votes compared with 57 for Texas. With quarterback Gunner Stockton returning after a 2,894‑yard, 24‑touchdown season, the team aims to capture another conference title, a goal that will be tested in the December 5 championship game at Mercedes‑Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
