Director Leo Volcy has crafted a short film that marks the return of Haiti to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, weaving together sport, heritage and national pride.
Narrated by actor Jimmy Jean‑Louis, the piece spotlights cultural ambassador Michaël Bru and former star Jozy Altidore, while showcasing the vibrant traditions of Haiti.
A Cultural Milestone
Released ahead of the team’s opening match against Scotland on June 13 in Boston, the film captures the excitement of a nation that qualified for the tournament on November 18, 2025, a date that coincides with the 222nd anniversary of the Battle of Vertières.
The production also highlights a setback: FIFA ruled that the original jersey, inspired by the historic battle, was not approved for competition, prompting a redesign.
Beyond the pitch, artist Brun is bringing his celebrated event series BAYO to Boston and New York for its tenth anniversary, extending the cultural celebration to the diaspora.
Together, these elements illustrate how football can serve as a conduit for identity, resilience and global connection for a country long overlooked on the world stage.
