Huascar Cuevas Lozano Joins FIU Men’s Basketball Program

The Dominican guard brings collegiate experience and international exposure to the Panthers

A New Chapter for Cuevas Lozano

Huascar Cuevas Lozano, a 6‑foot‑3 guard from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, has officially joined the FIU Panthers men’s basketball team for the upcoming season, adding depth and versatility to the roster.

His college journey began at Wagner College, where he saw limited minutes but gained valuable experience in a competitive environment. He then transferred to Daytona State College, where he blossomed into a reliable scoring threat, averaging 8.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game and earning All‑Citrus Conference Second Team honors.

During his tenure at Daytona State, Cuevas Lozano delivered standout performances, including a career‑high 24‑point effort against Miami Dade and two games with seven assists, underscoring his playmaking ability.

Beyond the NCAA, he represented the Dominican Republic at the FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup in 2021, an experience that broadened his tactical understanding and exposed him to international competition.

A product of Central Pointe High School in Orlando, Florida, he cultivated his skills on the East Coast before embarking on his collegiate career, and now aims to translate that foundation into a larger role with the Panthers.
