These men had been celebrated in Western and Arab outlets as mere athletes, their deaths in recent clashes repeatedly cited as proof of an alleged Israeli campaign against Palestinian sport.
Among those named are Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Abu Al-Atta, a former player who also served as a platoon commander for Islamic Jihad, and Mohammed Sami Mohammed Khattab, an internationally recognised FIFA referee who doubled as a terrorist operative.
Other identified figures include Mohammed Mohammed Hassan Barakat, Mahmoud Kamal Mohammad Ali Al-Rifi, Mohammed Mansour, Abdullah Riyadh Abdullah Khattab, Ali Mahmoud Ahmed Al-Kurd, Mohammad Emad Ata Hussouna, Tariq Ziad Hussein Al-Hour, Mohammed Ziad Hussein Al-Hour, Mahmoud Osama Al-Jazzar and Mohammad Nidal Mohammed Al-Hawajri, each with documented ties to the militant networks.
The IDF presented documentation linking each individual to militant activities, asserting that the narrative of innocent sportsmen was a deliberate distortion used to undermine Israel's legitimacy.
The revelation is part of a broader effort to counter a propaganda push that has portrayed Palestinian militants as journalists, aid workers and now athletes, a tactic the military says seeks to exploit global sympathy.
Officials warned that further cases will be disclosed, promising a steady stream of evidence aimed at restoring a factual context to the ongoing conflict.
