The funds, which should have been disbursed in December 2024, were held up for months, prompting the Jordanian federation to accuse FIFA of blackmail. When the money finally arrived, the amount was delivered without fanfare, but the episode has left a lingering sense of grievance.
FIFA issued an apology for the delay, acknowledging that the payment to the players and coaching staff had been overdue since the tournament’s conclusion in Qatar. The governing body also took the opportunity to reaffirm its confidence in President Gianni Infantino during a crisis meeting held in Morocco.
A Payment That Arrives Too Late
The timing of the disbursement has only intensified the criticism, as the funds were intended to compensate Jordanian athletes for their performance in a competition that concluded weeks ago. For many, the belated payment underscores a broader pattern of administrative missteps within FIFA.
