A Camp With Purpose
JuJu Watkins, the rising star of USC women's basketball, gathered a group of elementary and middle school girls at a Los Angeles gymnasium this weekend for a camp that blended skill work with personal development.
The three‑day program, organized through The Good JuJu Foundation, asked participants to rotate through stations that emphasized dribbling, running plays and defensive techniques while also exposing them to health and wellness topics.
Watkins, who grew up in the Watts neighborhood, said the camp’s core mission is to prepare young athletes for life beyond the hardwood, a philosophy inspired by her great‑grandfather’s decades of service to the community.
In partnership with Nike, Google Health, Ritz and Gatorade, each camper received a pair of Watkins’ signature sneakers, dubbed The Silver Lining, and a selection of sports drinks and snacks.
Parents were invited to attend a financial literacy workshop presented with J.P. Morgan Chase, giving families tools to manage money as their children pursue athletic and academic goals.
The event also featured an educational session on drug prevention and a wellness talk from Google Health, underscoring a holistic approach to youth development.
A Legacy in Motion
For Watkins, the camp is more than a summer activity; it is a continuation of a family tradition of giving back to Watts, a neighborhood that has shaped her path.
