Danish driver Kevin Magnussen is set to step onto the NASCAR Cup Series stage for the first time, piloting the iconic #91 Chevrolet Camaro for Trackhouse Racing’s Project 91 program at Naval Air Station North Island in California on June 21.
The Project 91 entry has already carved a niche in stock‑car racing, having been driven by former Formula One rivals Kimi Raikkonen and Shane van Gisbergen, the latter of whom celebrated a victory on his very first Cup start.
Magnussen, who concluded his Formula One campaign at the end of the 2024 season and subsequently turned to sportscar competition, expressed both excitement and a deep sense of honor at the prospect of competing in America’s premier stock‑car series.
A pathway for outsiders
Trackhouse’s Project 91 was conceived to give drivers from outside the traditional NASCAR talent pool a realistic chance to compete at the highest level, blending global racing experience with American stock‑car competition.
The Danish driver has already spent time with the team in North Carolina, immersing himself in the program’s preparation and building chemistry with crew members who describe the atmosphere as both dedicated and exhilarated by the upcoming debut.
Justin Marks, founder of Trackhouse Racing, highlighted the collaborative spirit of the organization, noting that the team is “an awesome group of people, incredibly dedicated, and just as excited about the debut as Magnussen.”
