Stevens Point Area Senior High (SPASH) has named Landon Dehnel as its new Varsity Boys Hockey Head Coach, tapping a figure who has lived the program from both the locker room and the sidelines.
A familiar face returns to lead the program
Dehnel, a SPASH alumnus who previously skated for the school’s varsity squad, returns after four seasons of service as an assistant coach. His deep roots in the Wisconsin Valley Conference and intimate knowledge of the team’s dynamics have been cited as key assets by the school’s athletic leadership.
Athletic Director David Hauser highlighted Dehnel’s enthusiasm, strategic grasp of the game, and unwavering commitment to the student‑athletes who make up the program.
Beyond the rink, Dehnel continues his dual role as a teacher at PJ Jacobs Junior High School and as the head coach of the school’s 7/8th grade baseball team, balancing classroom responsibilities with his passion for developing young athletes.
In a statement released after the appointment, Dehnel expressed both humility and excitement, saying he feels honored to lead a program that enjoys strong backing from the school, district and the broader community, and that he looks forward to building on its established tradition of excellence.
