Lay’s RePlay Expands Soccer Access Worldwide Using Recycled Pitches

The program, backed by PepsiCo, has connected over a million players across 12 nations and is poised to grow ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Lay’s RePlay, the soccer‑focused arm of the Lay’s chip brand, has turned discarded snack packets into the foundation for new artificial‑turf pitches that now dot communities from Europe to the Americas.

Since its launch in 2021 the initiative has installed 13 pitches in 12 countries, partnering with 18 organizations and welcoming more than 1.1 million participants who have taken to the fields for pickup games, leagues and tournaments.

The reach of the program received a boost from the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, which has spurred the creation of nine RePlay leagues across seven nations, involving roughly 200 teams and nearly 2,000 players, with about 800 matches already recorded.

Rewarding Play and Spirit

Selection for the leagues hinges not only on skill but also on team spirit — cheering on teammates, celebrating together and fostering a sense of belonging that organizers say mirrors the World Cup’s own community ethos.

Adam Warner, PepsiCo Vice President, says the project is about more than sport; it is a vehicle for building community and driving social change through the universal language of football.

Participants can earn all‑inclusive trips to the 2026 World Cup host cities of Los Angeles, New York/New Jersey and Mexico City, adding a tangible reward to the competition.

With a growing network of recycled pitches and a clear emphasis on both play and camaraderie, Lay’s RePlay is positioning itself as a model for how brands can turn waste into sport and social impact.
