A New Chapter for NASCAR
Kevin Magnussen, the Danish Formula One veteran, is poised to step onto a stock‑car track for the first time as he prepares for his NASCAR Cup Series debut at the upcoming San Diego Street Race.
The 28‑year‑old will pilot the No. 91 Chevrolet fielded by Trackhouse Racing under the banner of Project 91, a program that seeks to showcase international racing talent on American soil.
Project 91’s Global Vision
Project 91 has already proven its appeal, having attracted former Formula One champions such as Kimi Räikkönen, former IndyCar star Hélio Castroneves and current Formula E ace Shane van Gisbergen, each of whom have taken turns behind the wheel of the program’s specially prepared entries.
Justin Marks, co‑owner of Trackhouse Racing, emphasized that the initiative is about more than just competition; it is a cultural exchange that brings the world’s best drivers to a uniquely American setting.
San Diego Street Race: A Naval Celebration
The San Diego event will transform a temporary street circuit that winds through Naval Air Station North Island into a 3.4‑mile, 16‑turn layout, christened with military‑themed corners like Carrier Corner and Runway Road.
Beyond the racing action, the weekend will double as Navy Community Day, honoring service members and their families, while also forming part of the broader celebrations marking the U.S. Navy’s 250th anniversary and America’s 250th birthday.
Fans can expect a blend of high‑octane racing and patriotic pageantry, with the Chevrolet brand prominently featured on the car that Magnussen will drive.
